If you use an herbal skin care product, be sure that it does not contain concentrated plant fragrances like linalool. Actually, the best herbal treatment for the skin is free of added fragrances, even natural ones. When applied to the skin, these added fragrances often cause allergic reactions.

Many botanicals are very good for the skins health, but the average herbal skin care solutions on the market today, do not contain them. Wakame kelp extracts, for example, have high nutritive value and protect levels of hyaluronic acid, by inhibiting an enzyme that breaks down the amino acid. There are a number of companies that include kelp or seaweed extracts, but there is only one that I know of that includes wakame.

You might think that an herbal treatment for the skin would contain all natural ingredients, but an evaluation of the labels of hundreds of products over the years, reveals practically all of them contain artificial preservatives.

On top of that, very few companies test for contaminants in the raw ingredients they use. If they dont obtain their raw ingredients from organic farmers, then you know there will be traces of pesticides in them. Who wants to be exposed to that?

A really good herbal treatment for the skin is jojoba oil. Which is like a liquid wax. It was used by native healers to treat a variety of skin conditions, but it could be beneficial for anyone, particularly if it is including in a body lotion. Of course, the ingredient is too expensive for the big brand names to include. If they do include it, the concentration is so low that it is considered an inactive ingredient…far down on the list, behind the artificial preservatives and other fillers.

If the concentration of jojoba is high enough the herbal skin care cream can fade stretch marks and scars. It is also beneficial for treating acne and psoriasis, because it helps to balance sebum production. Sebum is the oil that is produced by the sebaceous glands. It provides for your skin moisture and transports nutrients to the skins outer layers. Dermatologists sometimes prescribe drugs that decrease sebum production for treating acne, but without sebum, the outer layers are not nourished.

Because jojoba is very similar to sebum, the sebaceous glands produce less when it is present. Yet the outer layers are still nourished by the nutrients found in jojoba.

Avocado oil is another good herbal treatment for the skin. As are passion fruit, olive oil, palm oil, Shea butter, grape seed oil and manuka honey. It is rare to find a product that contains all or most of those ingredients, but if you look hard enough, you can find truly safe and effective herbal skin care products.

An herbal treatment for the skin can be highly beneficial. You just need to know what ingredients to look for and what to avoid. The information here is merely a brief overview of the herbal skin care subject. The more that you know, the safer you will be and the better you will look.
